The game of bingo is a simple but fun pastime for people of all ages. Recently, many more people have been attracted to the game of bingo due to its development online. Online bingo is the new way to play the traditional game but the fundamental basics of the game remain the same. The game consists of a sort of lottery box from which a token is drawn one at a time. Each token contains a number ranging from 1 to 75, and one of five letters which spell out the word BINGO. Each player holds a unique card, on which there is a grid of 25 boxes arranged in five rows and five columns. Along the top of the card, the word BINGO is spelled out, with each letter on top of one of the columns. As the announcer draws each token at random from a box, he or she calls out first the letter and then the number, such as B-13. The players then refer to their cards, checking to see if the called token matches any of the five numbered squares beneath the letter B. If a player finds a match, he or she covers that spot with a marker. The game continues in this fashion until a player covers either one whole row or column, or covers five consecutive diagonal boxes, at which point the player calls out “Bingo!” After the call of “Bingo,” the announcer confirms the win by checking the player’s card, and awards the prize. Players then clear their cards of markers and a new game is begun.
Although the game of bingo has traditionally been played in community halls or churches, allowing many players to gather and participate, online games of bingo have been growing in popularity. Players can access a gaming site at any time from the comfort of their own home. Online bingo can be played for fun, or can be bet on with money for potentially massive jackpot wins. Online bingo generally offers a real-time chat capability which enables players to interact while the game is being played. This differs from traditional hall bingo, where talking is considered bad etiquette and distracting to other players.
