Forget about losing weight and being skinny. It doesn’t matter unless you are healthy too. There is no point being super skinny only to get sick and leave yourself vulnerable to all sorts of illnesses. Most people diet to lose weight, and all this means is burning more calories than you consume. However if your not giving the body the nutrients it needs then your body is going to be deficient in certain vitamins and minerals and perform well below it best.

Do you feel tired or lethargic when your on a diet? This is a good indication that this diet is not giving you the balance you need. The most important thing when your on a diet is to still get a balance of all the foods your body needs. What is this balance? Well, you will need to get the following servings per day:
Fruit: 2 servings
Vegetables: 5 servings
Dairy: 2-3 servings
Protein: 1-2 servings
Carbohydrates: 5-6 servings
Fat: 1 serving

The area that most people tend to neglect in their diet is getting the required number of vegetable servings. This is very important for keeping your body at your best. It will keep you full of energy and equipped to take on any stresses that come up. For some people is it worth taking a multivitamin as sometimes it is difficult to have all the required servings of vegetables. Vegetables also tend to increase your satiety levels which will further help your diet.

It is great to diet and lose weight, but recent studies have found that overweight people that exercise actually have a lower rate of heart disease and stroke compared to skinny couch potatoes. So when you are dieting, make sure you get out and get some exercise in as well. There are many diets that are extremely calorie restricted, and you will lose weight, but you will be too tired to do anything, let along some proper exercise. Just remember that the long term goal is your good health. So embrace the diet, but just make sure you keep the balance right, so your diet keeps you looking and feeling your best.
