It amazes me how many different diets there are on the market. It also surprises me that some of these appeal to people, when they don’t promote healthy living and are simply not maintainable. We have become such a quick fix society that we want everything now. I’m here to tell you that losing weight isn’t about following the latest diet. It’s about making changes to your lifestyle that will enable to you lose weight and keep it off. In this article i will talk about three diets that have been well marketed fad diets, why they will not work and a few tips to get you on track.
The Cookie Diet
Interesting concept! Eating cookies to lose weight? Gets attention....but not results unfortunately.
This diet gives you low calorie meal replacements in the form of cookies. It was invented by Dr Saigal and he instructed his patients to eat six cookies during the day which equals five hundred calories and three for dinner which equals three hundred calories. This creates a total calorie consumption of only eight hundred calories a day. Anyone will drop weight only consuming this amount of calories. However when you cut at essentially all major food groups from your diet it is very unhealthy. You will feel very weak, and this is certainly not sustainable!
The Hallelujah Diet
Many would not have heard of such diets! They do exist. It is based on principles in the bible. The diet is very strict in the sense that it has 85% raw foods and 15% cooked foods. Many vegan vegetarian principles apply in this diet. Namely juices, living raw foods and reminralised water. I believe that putting strong restrictions on diets is unrealistic. You should aim to lose weight sensibly without completely losing your lifestyle. Although reasonably healthy i would rule this out as it is unrealistic.
The Pritikin Diet
Wikipedia defines this “diet is unprocessed or minimally processed straight-from-nature foods like fruits, vegetables, legumes (such as black beans and pinto beans), whole grains such as brown rice, starchy vegetables like potatoes and yams, lean meat, and seafood”.
It also combines exercising regularly. In theory this is a healthy diet. It is a very strict diet. However if you are looking for diets that are a way of life then it is one you can look at. It will big a big change for most people.
These three diets all take a very different approach to weight loss. When researching diets, chose a diet that matches your lifestyle, not a diet that will just have you drop quick pounds and put it straight back on. Make sure you look for diets that give you a balanced meal plan that you enjoy.
